20 hostages killed in Bangladesh attack-military

The Bangladesh military spokesman, on Saturday confirmed the death of 20 hostages during a siege in Dhaka, when terrorists stormed a restaurant.
Brig.-Gen. Nayeem Chowdhry, the spokesman, said six of the terrorists holding the hostages were killed.
He said the victims were chopped to death by sharp weapons inside the Holey Artisan Bkery restaurant in the Gulshan diplomatic district of Dhaka.
Chowdhry said that a search operation was launched as the militants were killed after 12 to 13 minutes of commando operations.
The forces found a number of firearms - including pistols, AK-22 rifles and sharp weapons at the scene.
Some diplomats said on condition of anonymity that some of the foreign hostages included several Italians and one or more Japanese citizens.
"Two of the 13 hostages rescued are Sri Lankan nationals and one is Japanese, but more information would be available on the deceased after investigations’’, he said.
He said the gunmen entered the restaurant at about 8.45 p.m. Friday (1445 GMT) as customers were eating.
The spokesperson said tense standoff carried into early morning after two police officers were killed in an initial exchange of gunfire.
The Islamic State terrorist organisation reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.
Other reports said American officials suspected al-Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent, which the U.S. declared a terrorist group the day before.
It added that thousands of alleged radical militants had been arrested in Bangladesh in recent weeks. (NAN)

A lawmaker representing Oorelope constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Gideon Aremu, was shot dead by yet-to-be-identified gunmen  at Alakia, in the Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday evening.

 

Eye witness accounts said the lawmaker was murdered in front of his house by the killers who had trailed him to his Alakia residence, before opening fire on him.

 

Hon. Aremu, until his demise, was the only opposition lawmaker in the Oke Ogun area, as his other nine colleagues are from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

 

The Police Police Relation Officer (PPRO) for the State Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, while confirming the incident, told Daily Trust that investigation was ongoing.

 

“I can confirm that the incident happened late yesterday (Friday), and the police have swung into action,” he said, adding that the Commissioner, Mr. Leye Oyebade had already deployed human and material resources in tracking down the culprits.

 

“We can assure the public that very soon, we will apprehend those behind this cruel act. We equally want to appeal to members of the public who have information that will help our course to come forward,” Ajisebutu stated.

 

It will be recalled that the Appeal Court upheld the election of the Labour Party lawmaker last December, thus affirming the ruling of the election tribunal.

He has been the country’s King since 1946. He has made generous contributions to various sectors of Thai society. He is considered to be the richest royal in the world.

3. Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei – $20 billion

Hassanal Bolkiah’s complete name is Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien. He became the Sultan of Brunei after the abdication of his father in 1967. He has one of the largest car collections in the world, with some companies making new cars exclusively for him. He even has a Rolls Royce coated with 24K gold.

4. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, King of Saudi Arabia – $18 billion

Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is the third richest monarch in the world. He became King of Saudi Arabia in 2005 after the death of his half brother King Fahd. As the Saudi King, he is also the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. Under his regime, the country has slowly been undertaking reforms, including allowing more rights to women. He is known for his immediate response to international disasters, like the 2008 earthquake in China and Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

5. Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of United Arab Emirates – $15 billion

As the Emir of Abu Dhabi, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan is also the President of the United Arab Emirates. He took over as President in 2004 after the death of his father. He is the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. His family has an estimated wealth of more than $150 billion. He is known for his philanthropic work, making donations to orphanages in Turkmenistan, hospitals in the US and schools in Wales.

6. Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Emir of Dubai – $4 billion

As the ruler of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is also automatically the Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates. He came to power in 2006, succeeding his older brother Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He owns 99.67 percent of Dubai Holding. He is also responsible for the construction of landmarks like the Palm Islands, Burj Al Arab and the Burj Al Khalifa. His family’s total wealth is estimated to be around $44 billion.

7. Hans-Adam II, Prince of Liechstenstein – $4 billion

His full name can be a mouthful: Johannes Hans Adam Ferdinand Alois Josef Maria Marko d’ Aviano Pius von und zu Liechtenstein. He owns the LGT banking group. His family also owns an extensive collection of art pieces. These are displayed for public viewing at the Liechtenstein Museum in Vienna. He is considered as the wealthiest monarch in all of Europe. He holds broad powers as head of state, including the ability to introduce legislation and the power to veto laws passed by the parliament.

8. Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of Qatar – $2.5 billion

The ruler of Qatar comes from the Al Thani dynasty that began its reign in 1850 when Muhammad bin Thani ruled the country. The family comes from one of the largest tribes in the Arabian Peninsula called the Banu Tamim. The current Emir came to power in 1995 after deposing his father. He was one of the primary backers of the Al Jazeera news network, even providing a $137 million loan to help the company in its first years of operation. Was Mark Zuckerberg a Computer Programmer?

Yes indeed he was, Mark Zuckerberg used computers and began writing software before entering high school. He was taught the Atari BASIC Programming language in the 1990s, by his father. Edward Zuckerberg was dedicated to his son's learning and even hired software developer David Newman to give his son private lessons.

While still in high school, Mark Zuckerberg enrolled in a graduate course in computer programming at Mercy College and wrote a software program he called "ZuckNet," which allowed all the computers between the family home and his father's dental office to communicate by pinging each other. The young Zuckerberg wrote a music player called the Synapse Media Player that used artificial intelligence to learn the user's listening habits. Both Microsoft and AOL tried to purchase Synapse and hire Mark Zuckerberg, However, he turned them both down and enrolled at Harvard University in September 2002.

Mark Zuckerberg attended Harvard University where he studied psychology and computer science. In his sophomore year, he wrote a program he called CourseMatch, which allowed users to make class selection decisions based on the choices of other students and also to help them form study groups.
